HPV TEST
- What is HPV? Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a sexually transmitted virus. Some types cause genital warts, while others increase the risk of cervical cancer.
- What does an HPV test show?
- It detects if the HPV virus is present in the cells of your cervix.
- Specifically, it identifies high-risk HPV types that can increase your risk of developing cancer.
- How is it done?
- Your gynecologist takes a small sample from your cervix.
- This sample is then examined in a lab.
- Who should get tested?
- Women over 21, along with their routine Pap test.
- Those with an abnormal Pap test result.
- Those who have had a change in sexual partners or have other risk factors.
GENITAL WART REMOVAL (CONDYLOMA TREATMENT)
- What are genital warts? They are small bumps or growths on the skin or mucous membranes caused by certain types of HPV. They are most commonly found in the genital area.
- What does wart removal mean?
- It is the removal of warts using surgical or local methods.
- Methods:
- Cryotherapy (freezing): The wart is frozen with liquid nitrogen.
- Laser or Electrosurgery: The wart is removed by burning or cutting.
- Surgical Removal: Larger warts are cut out with a local anesthetic.
- Topical Treatment: Certain creams can help shrink the warts (under a doctor’s supervision).
